For 30 years of practice in New York City, Sage, and Coombe Architects has created projects that strengthen communities. Over multiple rounds serving in Design Excellence Initiatives for the City of New York, we have been involved in the design of public buildings and structures in parks and for pools, recreation centers, athletic facilities, and open-air performance spaces. We have designed libraries, schools, firehouses, and a train hall for Newark Penn Station. We regularly reckon with the demands of budget and schedule while drawing inspiration from the specific site and culture of the client and institution. Our office approaches every challenge with flexibility and an open mind. Our work is inclusive, collaborative, and environmentally sustainable. We embrace the unexpected and strive to bring lightness and humor to our practice — because we know that there is always more than one solution to a problem.

We believe in public work. We believe in cities, big and small. And most importantly, we believe in the power of architecture to inspire.

Sage and Coombe Architects is a New York City and New Jersey-certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE).

Sustainability Working Group

Sage and Coombe is part of the AIA 2030 Commitment to reach carbon neutrality. Our in-house Sustainability Working Group is developing programs to help educate our clients about key decision-making necessities.

We understand sustainability broadly, encompassing energy efficiency, carbon reduction, health and wellness, ecological impact, and social equity. We are committed to extending these values beyond simply avoiding harmful practices—we must actively design projects that are both sustainable and resilient, by creating architecture that can protect, strengthen, and heal its community, both now and for future generations.

In our practice, we make sustainability an integral part of the office culture and our design process. Sustainable strategies are applied to the design of projects and our business operations, including our own office building graded LEED silver.
